The race uses the Outeniqua Mountains, which rise dramatically from George’s urban edge, offering a playground for trail runners with hundreds of kilometers of hiking trails. The routes traverse through verdant valleys, fynbos-rich areas, and ancient indigenous forests. Peaks in the area reach up to 1,578 meters above sea level, providing spectacular views. Ridgelines offer panoramic vistas of the Indian Ocean to the south and the Karoo to the north. The combination of challenging terrain and the beauty of the surroundings, including dramatic shifts in scenery and immersion in a biodiverse region, is noted as a key aspect of the MUT by UTMB.
